“In 1974 Bernard Ashley, the co-founder of Laura Ashley, the now Global Fashion and Home Furnishing business, asked me to go to the United States and open the first store in America. I did. And then we opened 200 more.”

Peter Revers, Founder, PDR Associates

Was it easy, no – but it was a heck of a ride, and an integral step for companies seeking to emerge into the global marketplace. Peter Revers was born in England and came to America in 1974 to open Laura Ashley’s first store. He built the US Division of Laura Ashley from the ground up and ran it through it’s heyday, establishing 200 stores nationwide, a thriving mail order business, and a number of successful licenses, with brand retail sales in excess of $400 million a year.

A true retail pioneer himself, he believes that it is essential for retailers to develop an American presence if they really want to be a global player.

The US marketplace is the single biggest, common language, common currency, consumer market in the world. Current US retail sales exceed $5 trillion dollars, yet many British retailers do not attempt to develop an American presence. Many who have tried have failed, and there are only a handful who have been truly successful and profitable. Peter is one of them and he knows some of the reasons why.

With many years of experience representing British companies in the US he has lived and learned every phase of the retail lifecycle in the US. From startup to global empire, fledgling to force. He started PDR Associates to use his decades of experience to help British companies find their legs in the US market. With an established network of experts in all industry sectors, PDR Associates is a hub for US retail development.

He was awarded the OBE (Order of the British Empire) by Queen Elizabeth II for his contribution to the development of British businesses in the USA.
